W9 Revision

Week 9 Revision

Learning out of the 9-3 time frame. Opportunities for all learners to access their own learning and continue and build on their learning outside of school.
Writing mileage supports reading mileage.
Technology is not just a tool.
THIS NEEDS TO BE TAUGHT:
Creating rewindable learning, eg how to create rewindable learning for the modelling of a lesson. So the child can revisit or access if they are not there. Focus on stepping out of my own comfort zone to make rewindable learning. Record the instructions so that the children can hear rather than read. This will empower the children to make the most of their learning time.  For some students allow them to do the create and work through the problems of creating.

This course has motivated me to have a more digital class next year. My personal aim is to develop and expose my current class to sites and different apps on our i-pads. Learning from mistakes and developing some basic cyber-safety and skills for me and the children. Another goal is to problem solve the lack of devices in my hub/classroom and how we can integrate this within the learning programme. I have had the privilege of working with a supportive group of people who have been helpful and always approachable. The different speakers have been motivating and interactive.

A low point would be not being successful with the exam; I believe that I need to study and practice more and have a bit more confidence within my own self and abilities.

Sitting the Google exam for Level 1 - not so successful 72% but now know the areas to work on developing some more.

Empowering The Children

Taking the challenge to have a conversation that requires interaction and a reply.
Empowered children are the ones that have all the lessons and links to get on with their learning while they deal with the off task…
Thinking about the environment and the communities that we live. Look beyond what we see and think about the income, living, values & cultures of the children in you school and community. Think about the changes to rubbish or supermarket bags and the impact of those who rely on these. E.g. no plastic bags in supermarket but they still wrap the groceries in a variety of non-reusable plastics.
Google Forms Forms Chalk & Talk
Research for next week 3 ways to set the questions

Spreedsheets.google.com Sheets on Speed

Drag the blue square to cover columns
Formula for QR codes in spreadsheet Sandpit spreadsheet
View - Freeze columns and rows before putting in formulas
Trouble shooting when you stuff up ***File - Version History - restore last version
Go to sandpit spreadsheet to play and check up on formulas

Signed into the https://www.webassessor.com  ready for the exam next week. Having all the passwords and access codes etc. as we will be working incognito.

Over the next 5 days take the time to play with Google sheets and to read through notes and rewindable learning from the last 8 weeks. Continue to practice the tips and tricks and not relying on being signed into my drive but remembering how to get to something using the Omnibox.
Today has had some challenging moments but I have persevered and worked through these by taking the time and asking the questions. Continue to remind myself that I am able to do the many different tasks and that we are all on a different part of the learning journey. The only person who can empower me is me.

Week 7 Media

Week 7 Media Media Agenda

Reflections from last week:
What went well: Used explain everything with a small group of boys. They would have loved more time to explore. I would love to begin using my site but will continue to develop over the next few weeks and aim to introduce in Term 4. Have stepped out of comfort zone and signed up to Chapter Chat T4 and will support my Hub to participate.
What hasn’t made sense: Want to start using site but having technical issues with laptop and chromecast. Will use the next few weeks to set up and get set onto ipads.

Connected with Dorothy
To be CONNECTED you have to SHARE.
Connecting can be verbal or using body language.
Because we are time poor. There are a variety of opportunities for people to share. Face to Face is the most important. Connecting through facebook, twitter, blogs and Google+ (if in the cluster them you are linked in and will get updates) All the puzzle pieces work together.

Kent Somerville Point England school Live streaming
Dreams of the future
YouTube live streaming  using a camera, drone, laptops and phones. Lots of use in sports teams & to do a flyover to show players positions etc. Need access to internet...Internet in a box? New ways of the future.
Think about copyright and usage of songs & permission?
Setting up a YouTube account/channel (how to set up on test week 9)

Google Draw create comic strips or characters to create an animation on slides

Check out all the rewindable learning using Google draw and Google Slides.
Download as a .png and save onto the blog using settings…
Tips and tricks around html:
ZZZZ as a hint as to where to insert. (control f to find)
Change width 150… and remove the height
Change the 1000 or 2000 to 100 or 200
Change false to true for start and loop

Check out my animated slide of ‘The Cat stole the Map!’
This was the biggest learning today. The creating has developed my confidence and I have really enjoyed the creating aspect. I will continue to develop my skills around Draw and slides. The creating has also helped my sharing within my blog but also with connecting with others at the DFI.

Week 6 Enabling Access

Week 6 Enabling  Enabling Access Agenda

Visible Teaching and Learning - Dorothy

Is the learning visible to all the students, teachers and family. Need to not hide the learning from the students otherwise the students often FAIL. Often they are stuck in the maze and are unable to find the right direction. The students do not need to read the teachers mind they need the experiences to create the learning. The day to day functions and groups (not the private and personal details).

Assessment- how much of it should be invisible? Why can’t we for warn the students/whanau about assessment and prepare them for the things that are coming into their day. Sharing some of the student’s results but in a positive way.

Parent portal. Are all parents able to access the portal and do they know what to do once they are in?

Visual appeal - shop window! Exploring different sites for different aspects, what works for the user and visual aspects.

SITES
Sites to support my further learning to help with i-pads and my class site
Creating Site Page 16 (i-pads) Limit the apps being used

Connected (Blog links, school site) Feedback on my site
Love your theme
Visible teaching and learning, Effective teaching practice eg NZC, learning progressions, NZQA etc
A great base for a class site. Love the images and the buttons
Opportunities for learners to be creative
You have a great start to put information.

Today I have updated my Pohutukawa 3 Site that was started last year. With great support I have created a folder that has sharing rights and I now understand that I will need to do all the planning in this folder if it is going onto the site.  Within the folder I have created other folders that will relate to the buttons. I have created a slide for each reading group that I will add to each week for them to use and guide their independence. I have also embedded a video that relates to one of the reading groups texts. I am super excited that I have finally clicked to how this is supposed to work, the support from Kristine has been fantastic, answering all my little questions.
