Day 2

Day two of the West Coast Digital Fluency Intensive.

Sharing what has gone well and where to next. Making time to play and revisit what we have
learnt during our time together.

Google Hangouts (Meet is the same)

Etiquette is key to hangouts. This is a valuable slide to visit with any group.

Check that you have the correct screen settings.

Dorothy Burt

Explaining the 2 key points to the programme and how they run alongside.

Teachers are the key to giving learners opportunities and experiences. Recognising, amplifying
and digitalising, using the SAMR ladder or BLOOMS to explain.
Each time I hear another aspect of how and why Manaiakalani programme has been created I am gaining a greater understanding of the need for teachers to be effective and inclusive in all aspects of teaching. The use of digital technologies is an aspect or tool to supporting the learners and allowing them to broaden their horizons. The need for me to stay up with the new technologies so that I have the knowledge to support the learners.
Today I have extended my areas of comfort. I have had previous experiences with google hangouts but today I have had to set up and participate as well as speak on a hangout.  As a group I participated in a hangout and we spoke about a blog post. My job was to present the blog so others could see. This was interesting but a great experience. (I also discovered that my voice is quite loud)!!

The best thing that I learnt today was using google keep.
The photo to text aspect was amazing and has so many possibilities for all of my learners, especially with creating reading tasks or learning tasks.

Today I have had many new ideas to sort out my calendar and gmail. I feel that will play with keep and tobymini. These will be two great aspects that will help me manage my time and workflow.
At this stage I am still developing my Learn and working with my Create; and some Share.

Day 1

Day one of the West Coast Digital Fluency Intensive.
The day began with Dorothy Burt  explaining the beginnings of the Manaiakalani and how it has developed over the past 10+ years. This was a reminder that this is the chance for me as a teacher to provide authentic audiences for my learners, while empowering these learners with their own voice.

Core Business Week 1 The programme for the day and all the different links to slides and discussions.

Throughout the day I have been introduced to a variety of new ideas that have shown me how chrome, drive and docs can support me  in developing my planning and teaching. Having the time, within sessions, to put ideas into place has allowed me to play in the sandpit while the idea is fresh and while the support is available.

The first 'light bulb' moment came when we were shown shortcuts and tweaks for making use of the many aspects of chrome. The ‘Chalk and talk’ sessions were interactive and engaging. Here I learnt about the Omnibox, closing multiple tabs and that there are 2 different ways to copy and paste. Understanding all the underlying parts that work together when copying, pasting or formatting have me thinking about the many layers that create the digital platform. When I have the hang of theses shortcuts, I will be able to support my learners to embed them within their own learning. I will continue to develop the language that I will use when I explain and show the learners.

As the day has progressed I have tried new learning and my confidence will continue to develop as the sessions progress.
